Growing Up - Poem by Margaret Cox

Happy Birthday, have a good one young man
Enjoy the special day, have all the fun you can
To bide your time is such a foolish trait
Reach out for things, never sit and wait

You have much to learn, so much to achieve
In what you can do, you must always believe
Reach upwards and see the sky is the limit
The World is your oyster, and you are in it

There are endless paths of life you can tread
So much to do and so many books to be read
Many lessons to be learned, in all that you do
The Dawn of each day brings challenges anew.

But your innocence and youth, so full of life
Still not ready to deal with trouble and strife.
Wander through life with a happy smile
Always find some time to ponder a while

Work hard, laugh out loud and stand up tall
Knowing the pleasure you bring to us all.
We’ll be so proud as we watch you grow
And become the man we’ll all want to know.
