cold war between communism and West
at its peak
CIA and IB decided to set up
a nuclear powered detection device
on mount Nanda Devi
India's 2nd highest peak
at 25643 feet
to keep track China's military
and nuclear build-up
they nicknamed it 'Guru Rinpoche'
then China not yet carried out
it's 1st nuclear test
a ten-foot-high antenna
two transmitter and receiver sets
and a SNAP
System for Nuclear Auxiliary Power
with seven plutonium capsules
were to install
total weight 56 Kgs
these were housed in a special cased unit
it was one of the
most treacherous climbs
and tough job
sherpas carried it
at an altitude of 24000 ft
then suddenly snow storm struck
men left the machine and fled
to save their life
when storm stopped
nothing found there
the dangerous plutonium capsules
that weigh half the capacity
of bomb dropped on Hirosima
were gone
and not found again
water and rock samples tested
but no report released
further expedition stopped
area sealed
scientists jointly said
plutonium has a radioactive life
of over a hundred years.
