Had I known then what I know today
Would that have changed anything?
Back then I'd not been ready for it,
Not ready to accept life's sting.
I needed to come upon it slowly
And feel it in my breath.
That which I needed the most
Was the understanding of death.
When you are in the thinking stage
You begin to wonder and seek
Why life turns out to simply be
Just a glimpse or a peek
Into the mysteries that surface
and are hard to figure out.
They can be called the unknown,
Things we don't know about.
But isn't that why we've come to earth?
to try our best to learn?
And had I known then what I know today
I'd have wanted a quick return
To where it was I ventured from.
And then I would never know
the answers to any of these mysteries
that slowly helped me to learn.
