Halloween Poem by Charles M Moore

Halloween

The night hallowed darkness
as clouds passed the moon
I chanced through the shadows
Pervading the gloom
The mist closed like curtains
in cold winter air
that crept from the river
in silent despair.

My heart thumped in rythm
to each fragile step
thoughts a confusion
of fear and regret
I wasn't at home
in the sanctum of peace
as the leaves from the trees
fluttered down round my feet.

Hold it together I heard myself say
it's only the darkness
that's casting for prey
seeking the foolish
and those innocents
who dare tred on Halloweens
night of offence.

The vampires of twighlight
whose mournful cries
seek out the blood
of the lone passerby
flesh eating zombies
and bone crushing gouls
witches and wherewolves
that capture young souls
belzebubbe devils
that cast you to hell
to burn in eternitys
firey hell.

I get to my door
now a sigh of relief
inserting my key
in the lock that means peace
exposing the entrance
I take a step in
then scream out in horror
as hell lies.....Within.
