Hard Night Poem by Miral El Nahry

Hard Night

I look at her, she's in another bed, next to me
She's drowning in her deep sleeps
If she was already dreaming, why couldnt I dream too?
She turns and flips, as she breathes
I dont know she's dreaming of who..
My eyes wont shut, i wont sleep
& so i try, by counting sheep
But it's not working
& it's not helping
I can only feel my body melting
But it's the middle of winter
Could i be sick?
So i think..but No im not
Can somebody give me a hint?
No, they cant, they're all sleeping
And nobody's feeling what im feeling
I want to sleep, Im so tired
I take off my blanket, and get off my bed
I could hardly keep balance of my tipsy head
I open the door and reach for water
I think, if any night can be harder
I walk back to bed, and now im feeling cold
I reach for my blanket, there's nothing else id rather hold
I try to sleep..and so i think
But in my deepest dreams i sink..
