Hating Immigrants Poem by Randy McClave

Hating Immigrants

Before you hate that stranger because he's a different color than you
Remember this, Jesus was also a different color too,
And before you hate them because of the language that they speak
Remember, peace and asylum is what they do desperately seek.
Before you want them sent away and off unto a different land
Remember this, maybe your home God had led them by his very own hand,
And before you call the Border Patrol or the Gestapo or the Texas rangers
Remember from the Bible, how God wanted you to treat strangers.
Before you call them murderers, rapists, liars and/ or a thief
Why not first ask them about their own dreams and their belief,
And before you start acting like a privileged person in this great nation
Remember this, God gives everyone the right to find salvation.
Like the Israelites they too from violence had fled
And here for sanctuary and for protection they too were also led,
And when a people or a politician hates and despises them for this
If you listen closely enough, you can hear the smiling snake hiss.
So, before you hate that woman or man or child standing over there
Because they are on you precious land breathing your precious air,
So, before you strike or think of striking that stranger with a rod
Remember this, Immigrants are also created in the image of God.
