Have I Ever Told You? Poem by Jennifer A Heskins

Have I Ever Told You?

When I sit still and silent,
I like to think I can hear your heart beat,
Beating in time with mine.
When I watch you speak to me,
Through the lines and cords, bytes and rams,
I imagine your voice, whispering in my ear.

I wait each day in anticipation,
For you to come online.
Wanting an hour or two,
Just so I could feel closer to you.

Sometimes I reach out and touch your name,
On the cold screen before me,
Wishing I could reach in and pull you to me.

There have been times, when I've ached for you.
Ached so bad that the emotions overwhelm me,
I'll sit and cry for hours.

After the first time I heard the sound of your voice,
Thousands of miles away, I sat up that night,
Replaying the conversation over and over in my mind,

I would give everything up,
just for one night near you.
To feel your chest rise and fall
with each breath you take.

Just so I know you are real.
I dream of you reaching out And taking my hand.
Simply to let me know you're there.
And everything is going to better from now on.

i know this feeling. while on the phone with a dear friend of mine, i used to wonder if he were really real or not. nice depiction of that. you've captured it quite nicely.
