He’d Be Mr. E Poem by David Floren

He’d Be Mr. E

Rating: 5.0

He’d mean like a man who meant it.
He’d ask his soul, “Who sent it? ”
He’d say of this life he’d spent it
Heeding the narrow gist of “it.”

Marrow-deep and dependent
On a soul-barrow for rent
From a scarecrow for four & twent-
Y.

Marrow-deep and dependent
On planters’ shivers (pendent
Hopes of harvest) : trenchant
Mr. E.

He’d ask the beeline, “Who bent it? ”
He’d mean like a man who meant it.
He’d say of his soul he’d rent it
Well. No withholding payment.

Marrow-deep and dependent
On some Giver, quiver resplendent
With Eros-arrows aplent-
Y.
