He Did Not Seem To Realize Poem by Francis Duggan

He Did Not Seem To Realize

Rating: 5.0

Forget about yesterday it has been and gone
The now is what matters and life does go on
The biological clock on our lives ticking fast
We can only remember and learn from the past.

Yesterday he went home from work to find that his wife
Had left and with her taken the children for to start a new life
With her secret lover in a distant town
Such a thing for a man must be hard to live down.

Though apart in their ways of late they had seemed to grow
Of her new love and secret intentions he did not even know
He had been spending too much time in the local pub
As well as drinking with his mates in the bar of the football club.

He did not seem to realize that no shortage of men in the World out there
And his neglected woman did find love elsewhere
Though her leaving him has taken him completely by surprise
To take a woman for granted is not very wise.

Tonight in the pub with tears in his eyes
His mates standing by him with him Sympathize
But if in them they do have the power to discern
From what has happened to him they may even learn.
