He Dropped Down On His Knees Poem by norman hale

He Dropped Down On His Knees

He dropped down on his knees
To pray to God above
For helping him to find food
For all those that he loved

Now that he got a buffalo
His family will finally eat
After many days of hunger
This will be more like a treat

The buffalo seen him coming
And knew today he must die
For he had heard in the wind
The indians families cries

So he just stood still
As if he didn't know
But knew it was all over
When he felt the arrows blow

He stood there for a moment
As the arrow went through his heart
Then fell down and over
As if he was playing his part

The indian stood still
As he watched the beast fall
Then let out a big whoop
As in his tribal call

It wasn't long until help was coming
To start carving on that beast
For tonight they could be happy
As they would have their feast

As they gathered up the meat
And headed back to the tribe
Their were many tears of joy
His kids looked at him with pride

Before he went to bed that night
He knelt and prayed again
For he sure knew he had help
From his Heavenly friend
