He Pleaded The Fifth Poem by Randy McClave

He Pleaded The Fifth

It wasn't a lie or even a myth
I heard him again plead the fifth,
He wouldn't invoke the self-incrimination clause
As his worshippers did applause.
He declined to answer any asked question
Whether in any courtroom, or in any session,
He knew that if he answered truthfully his life would be grim
Because his answers would easily incriminate him.
I remember once before when he did speak
He said, "The fifth amendment the guilty would only seek",
He spoke that statement time after time and once again
While always wearing a cocky grin.
He spoke that the fifth is taken only by the mob
After they have killed or racketeered or did rob,
He said that taking the fifth was disgraceful and degrading
But, then the FBI through the justice department came raiding.
He had taken records with classified information
Did he want to sell or give them to a foreign nation,
And he literally ate and flushed top secret files
To his own satisfaction, and smiles.
I see him only as a liar and a traitor
Where his worshipers want him as a king or a dictator,
He's an adulterer, a tax evader, a draft dodger and a con man
Staying rich and in power is his truest plan.
He says that he's not a criminal and he did nothing wrong
And in a courtroom he cries that he doesn't belong,
With only his conscience he is standing with
He shouts out proudly again, "I am pleading the fifth".
