He Ran

He ran around her heart.
He ran forward
And he ran back.
But he couldn't keep track.
Why he ran so much,
Why he ran so slow,
Then so fast,
He did not know.
Which was the better,
The coming or the going?
Which was the better,
The going or the coming?
This man couldn't,
Figure this out.
So he ran all his life,
Around and about.
