He Was Walkin’ Down The Street... Poem by Marilyn Lott

He Was Walkin’ Down The Street...

I saw him walkin’ down the street one day
He had a smile and twinkle in his eye
And where he was going I cannot say
But he was handsome and sexy... oh my

I turned around and saw where he went
Watched him duck into the grocery store
Well, suddenly I needed more milk but I forgot
What I wanted once I went through the door

I grabbed a cart, had to look like a shopper
I looked all around and down a couple isles
No sign of this guy with a twinkle in his eye
And a handsome face with adorable smile

I opened my purse and grabbed a mirror
Squinted and also grabbed a lipstick
Tried to remember if I’d done my best
For a glamour gal was the image to get

Smeared hot pink across my puckered mouth
Patted my hair quickly just in case
And put a smile as charming as could be
Right across my expectant face

At this point I was so very sure
My life had taken an exciting turn
The smile he’d sent me was truly
One that made my ‘older’ face burn

But around a bend of cans and such
I’ll tell you, I had the shock of my life
For with seven kids gathered ‘round him
He was kissing his very pregnant wife!
