Head Over Heels Poem by April Humason

Head Over Heels

You had my heart spinning in the night,
Drawn by a shimmer mistaken for light.
I felt the pull like a storming sea,
Thinking your fire was meant for me.

I laid my guard at a fragile cost,
And tasted the danger of being lost.
Not love, but hunger wrapped in fear,
A counterfeit voice pulling near.

I wanted power.
I wanted to feel alive.
I wanted to be more than quiet.
More than small.

But truth doesn't ask you to disappear.
And love does not enslave.

Now I rise without chains or flame,
Learning the strength of my real name.
Not owned.
Not consumed.
Not given away.

Head over heels, not into you—
But back to who God called me to.
