Heart Beat Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

Heart Beat

I lay me down quietly
Content in the surrounding darkness
Very silent in the dark waiting
Hearing the clanging of the clock
As I follow the rhythm of the clang
Counting the clang one after the other
Hearing my own heartbeat in the dark
Becoming one with clock clang
Wandering how everything is so quiet
Especially when man is asleep
Sometimes you hear the barking of a dog
Which may jolt into consciousness
Turning over to the other side
Every sound seem to change as well
A bang as if a door is been locked
Every sound become crystal clear
When silence and darkness agree
Far distance echo be heard
Rustling of the trees by the wind
And the accompanied whistling
Shifting into a more comfortable position
Rhythm of the heart be echo
All merging to the sound around
