Heart Instrumentation Poem by Abby Sze

Heart Instrumentation

Please do not measure the settlement marker
Installed in my heart.
The reading will drop
Suddenly a lot
Triggering alert.

Please do not measure the grid crack meter
Installed in my heart.
The crack is getting large
To the X and Y side.
You better run away fast.

Don't ever measure the tilt meter
Installed in my heart.
The thoughts loading there
Not as the same track
As the world get.
Sin Θ is large, tilted to the edge,
No one is able to accept.

But if you do want to measure,
Please take reading every day,
Then study their trend,
Implement the mitigation plan.
My heart might feel the world
Is not the end.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Denis Mair 02 March 2016

This poem is very witty and loveable, but there is also another level which is the total domination of language by intellect. Language is naturally impulsive and full of shadowy implications. In this poem we see the writer applying rationality proactively in the area of feelings. How can rationality deal with feelings in the end? Even the poet warns you to beware of what might happen. It's humorous in a vein of self-parody, but maybe it's also a serious metaphor for how people deal with their feelings in clunky ways.
