Heart Shedding Tears Poem by Jon M. Nelson

Heart Shedding Tears

Verse 1:
There's only one way to describe them,
In one word it would be brave.
They fought for and served our country,
And so many lives they tried to save.
We have called them by many names,
Heroes, Warriors, and so much more.
They're the ones who didn't return,
After going off to fight the war.
There have been so many others,
Willing to make the sacrifice.
But it's time that we remember,
Those who paid the final price.

Chorus:
Can't you see my heart shedding tears,
For the ones that were lost?
They helped to settle our fears,
And then paid the ultimate cost.
They died serving our country,
Like so many over the years.
They fought to keep us free,
And now my heart is shedding tears.

Verse 2:
They went off to serve their country,
Leaving those who loved them back home.
Feeling God's loving arms around them,
They knew they never were alone.
Each one relied on the other,
Fighting diligently side-by-side.
They proudly served with honor,
Their hearts bursting with pride.
During times they were pushed to the limits,
Their will would still not bend.
They had fought and given all they had,
Until the very end.

Chorus:
Can't you see my heart shedding tears,
For the ones that were lost?
They helped to settle our fears,
And then paid the ultimate cost.
They died serving our country,
Like so many over the years.
They fought to keep us free,
And now my heart is shedding tears.
