Heartbeats / Latidos Poem by Luz EtchemendiGaray

Heartbeats / Latidos

My heart beats
with a sadness
that goes before my tears,
the stifled sobs,
that have remained
in the centre of my breast,
that persue me through the nights,
that not abandon
the story of passage
by the cadence of my sighs.

Translated from Spanish to English by Daniel Ginhson with comment by Sue Littleton:

Late el corazòn
con la tristeza
que transpasa mis làgrimas,
el llanto no emitido
aquel que se ha quedado
en la mitad del pecho,
el que me persigue por las noches
que no abandona
la historia de mis pasos,
junto a la cadencia de mis suspiros.
el llanto no emitido
