Her Eyes Poem by Joseph Anthony Montefusco

Her Eyes

As her eyes sweep the room
She searches for prospects
Overlooking the one man that loves her
Regardless… she inspects

“Went out with him
Did stuff with him”
As she speaks I do nothing
But stand biting my lip and grin

Her eyes continuing to
View the ball room
I stand unnoticed by her
Drowning in my damned gloom

Even though I am fixated on her
I still notice wandering eyes
Other females looking at me
But they I refuse to recognize

And for one instance
Her eyes hit mine
She gives a flirty smile
That sends shivers up my spine

But just as quick as that smile came
It left
So I stood there feeling empty
Still holding my breath

“Maybe she’ll gimme a kiss”
I thought in my mind
But I later discovered that a kiss
Would be impossible to find

The time is near
Soon I must depart
But first I try to
Discover where is her heart

She whispers “I love you”
As I gaze into her eyes
Yet as I leave I wonder
Are these all lies?

A tear falls down
As I respond in kind
And her eyes simply
Pay no mind

They just recede
To searching around
And as her eyes smile
Mine are leaving in a frown.
