Here I Am Poem by Mohammad Younus

Here I Am

Here I am,
Lying in my living room,
Undisturbed through profound upheavals,
Minding no one's business,
Growing more alone with passing time.
I think of days when I would watch
The sun kissing Kashmir's hills;
Walking and growing beneath its rays,
While charming voices sang my songs—
Caring, nurturing, as I crossed
From childhood into youth,
Until fully grown.

Now, in my old age,
Quietly matured and wise,
I cherish memories of joy and freedom—
Moments that shaped my calm, composed way of life.
I find a new place within, a hermitage,
Encircled by the scent of roses—
Their fragrance seeping into my soul.
Longer and deeper, I meditate here,
The aroma completely permeating
My life, my spirit, my being.

Then arrives the day,
With a heart seasoned and ready
For life's final journey into golden age.
I rest quietly in the light,
Hearing sweet, divine melodies,
Growing ever stronger, ever more mature.
Until that moment soon to come,
When I am lifted gently, lovingly,
To the home of peace—
Freed from the mists and fog of illusion.

As I flow softly to this sacred home,
I will begin anew—
The second phase of my world.
