Hereafter Poem by Lauren Michaels

Hereafter

Can we,
intransigent muse,
Can we earn redemption,
If we do not suffer the absolute consequence?
If we repent
We repent
We repent,
Can we earn redemption?

Oh I so hoped that I could.

When I awake
To the brutal light
With consequence heavy
About my whole being
Et tu, et tu, et tu.
Brutus.
Will I love my redemption?

Through all of the wreckage it leaves.

When I awake inevitable
To the aftermath
That continues
Hereafter and after
And after.

Have I anything to love?
Have I earned my redemption.
