Herm Island - Keeper Of Hearts Poem by Sailing to windward

Herm Island - Keeper Of Hearts

Upon first fall of foot the spell is cast
to keep our hearts fair safe inside your store.
New found hopes bloom and rise upon your slopes;
fears dissolve and fade till they scare no more.

How sweet your land where sweeter water still,
feeds well the crop of each man’s planted seed.
Sunlit shores wash in swift and fruitful tide
your golden sand, wrapped in dune and reed

Etched your ground, with ancient lines to guide us,
through fragrant paths, by hallowed sites to wander.
Soothing jangled nerves in sweet nature's balm,
we adore your seascape views and ponder.

Pools and rocks amuse our children’s fancy,
and grace our table laden with their fayre.
By night, a perfect starry site to camp
round fire, with friends, our food and wine we share.
.
At water's edge in waning light we stroll;
the keeper's trade in lover's bonds, we pay.
Without the tick of clock, time flows unfelt.
Safe in your hands, could we not eternal stay?

(For the 'Pods' whose hearts will always beat in Herm)
