Hey There Life! Poem by Suraj Motiwala

Hey There Life!

Head bowed down, helplessness within and lack of hopes, made me cry out and shout; “Hey there ‘life’, come teach. Say whatever you want to say, come preach.”

Came a reply from somewhere saying “Look up when the times are hard and make the hard times look down” Is it you my ‘life’?
Is it you who responded my call? If yes, then don’t go; there are things I want to ask. There are experiences I want to share; interpret my failures for me, tell me what do they mean?

The silence around again made a sound and said “If you don’t learn from the loss, you will always lose, Defeats aren’t failures nor do losses make you a loser.”

But you saw, I said. You saw how I lost all that I had? What did I get save pain? And now I worry about losing the little that I possess.
“Don’t let the fear of losing someone or something make you lose yourself, All that you are is because of what you were, and because of what you are now you get the pains.”

“There is nothing you possess, ‘Tonight they are yours, tomorrow others will possess them’1. But indeed you will always have one thing that is the chance to steer one ship, ship of your life that is.”

But it didn’t work, I tried. I took turns and made new ways, traveled miles – still haven’t found what I long. You say ship of my life is mine, but the sails of my ship are the slaves of Someone other than me.

“Don’t forget, the ship you sail is and will always be in the Ocean of God’s Will. Wait, don’t fear its too late, if it’s meant to be, nothing can change your fate”

“Unloose your will, stop struggling, offer yourself to Him. Every wind will then make sense, every new turn will then make a way, every tide, and every mile will draw you closer to that which you long. Nay, rather the outcome itself will be your desire.”
Hey my ‘life’, I am starting to see what you tried to show me, I am grateful to you. Thank you for being a wonderful teacher. I hope now to pass the tests of life.

“There is more to learn from yet another. You will meet him soon, he disguises himself as death but is none other than my brother. Remember what we learnt. He will test you again. Good bye.”
