His Second Win Today! Poem by Denis Martindale

His Second Win Today!

My jockey friend must win this race! We're hoping for good news!
He does his best to set the pace and plans to win, not lose!
Forget the last race if you can, a new one's set to start!
Good luck, if you're a betting man, if your horse plays its part!

Perhaps you've said a quiet prayer, just like a thousand more,
But I don't bet, so I don't care, that's not what I'm here for!
While others bet, and watch afraid, not knowing what must be,
I know I'll never get dismayed, as I can't lose, you see!

And so, they're off and clustered close, each jockey on his horse,
They're neck to neck and nose to nose! The crowd goes nuts, of course!
But every stride builds up the lead, and my friend's doing well,
Today, he's on a noble steed, a fast one, I can tell.

That horse makes this look easy! Like it's a piece of cake!
A sure bet and a certainty! Of that, there's no mistake!
My word, that horse, he just won't quit! I've never seen such skill!
I've never seen a horse so fit! He's going faster still!

I'm sure that horse could run for miles! So, point him on his way!
My jockey friend? Well, he's all smiles! His second win today!
No wonder that he laughs and laughs when all his tensions ease,
To pose for fancy photographs, just like celebrities!
