Holding On To You Poem by Ridah Ellahi

Holding On To You

Burn my flesh,
Cut me deep.
Remind me of the pain.
Remind me of your deceit.
My breath clogged in my throat.
My heart shattered in a million pieces.
Yet, I’m still holding on to you.

My thoughts incomplete,
My wounds still raw.
The cold takes over.
Freezes my heart.
Through my anguish,
I scream for mercy.
Yet, I’m still holding on to you.

You are the hope,
Of a better tomorrow.
You are a reminder,
Of my pain, my sorrow.
You are my protection,
Against the storm that you aroused.
Yet, I’m still holding on to you.

You cut me open,
Left me to die.
All I wanted,
Was to say goodbye.
You’re the air I breathe.
You’re all I need.
I know you’ll hurt me again.
Yet, I’m still holding on to you.

The clock keeps ticking,
Yet I’m stuck in time.
On the moment you held me.
It was so divine.
And as I breathe my last,
I call out to you once again.
I want you to see, I want you to know,
I always held on to you.
