Holes Poem by Barry Middleton

Holes

we try to avoid them
but there are holes to fall into
dark pits

I would not wish this
on my worst enemy if I had one
which I don't

three years I've been here
three years sick tired desperate
but fighting

if you fell in with me
I'd be poor company
I'm mute

we would stare blankly
into the darkness
in silence

I reach out to touch you
so close to me
so far away
