Hollow Poem by Barbara Parker

Hollow

The Hollow feeling inside
The smiles I seem to hide
The pressure on my chest
My infinite Loss of Rest
Burning feeling in my throat
Empty feeling in my Head
People shun me for what I've said
What I say
How I feel
What I sing
How I pray
I am scolded for being different
While others are accepted for being the same.

Be you, Barbara, be you: yes, those inside a System will urge conformity on you, but usually the System will've been founded by people not conforming to a previous System... never let yourself be confined by others' boxes & labels, but be YOU - it's hard, & you'll get a lot of flak for it, but if you can hold on, the world'll be a much better place for having a nonconformist like you in. Take courage!
