Hoping For A Feeling Poem by John W. McEwers

Hoping For A Feeling

Rating: 5.0

It wasn't right the way you pushed me away.
I mean, come on, things weren't all that bad.
There was a level of communication I thought I'd never reach,
and one upon meeting you I knew we'd never share.

Even so.
Things changed.
We talked we walked we spoke.
We joked about that joke that made you choke that time you choked.
On popcorn.
It was the kernals.
They were too much for you to chew.
And it was you, of course, it was you,
it was you that couldn't chew when we were busy talking joking about nothing much but just enough.

And now I force a laugh about a joke about nothing really.
I look over for confirmation that this laughter is okay.
All I get is a peach and purple wall that we compromised on painting.
Your favorite.
My favorite.
I'm left hoping for a feeling.
