Hoping For Relief Poem by Ray Hansell

Hoping For Relief

The sun has been blazing
For at least a week
Well over one hundred degrees
A cool night is all we seek

I heard the thunder
I saw the lightning
As it ripped apart the sky
I know to some it is frightening

Shortly afterward the rain fell
As hard as I've ever seen
In fact it interrupted me
In the middle of a dream

But the rain didn't help
In cooling anything down
Not looking forward to tomorrow
As the same weather will stay around

The lightning started fires
In the dry lands all around
The fires are being fought
From the air and on the ground

I just hope the weather
Finds a way to cool down
So it makes it possible
For some comfort to be found
