How large the gap between hired and fired,
I could stay or must go, is it sun or snow,
Was almost elected, the cause now neglected,
How great the divide between narrow and wide.
Was once almost there, a verdict unjust or fair?
What of day and night or black upon white,
Might have ruled the land, if it had gone as planned,
How armoured the door separating rich from poor
Intense is a measure between pain and pleasure,
And those two old enemies, work versus leisure,
Perhaps better not shout but instead try and soothe,
How different the feel between rough and smooth
Arrived in port or sunk at sea,
Kerb side quiz or hot sweet tea,
Was given weeks to live or at last the all clear,
Is it solid wood or thin veneer.
Hate cold and wet, prefer warm and dry,
The gift of life or time to die,
Up or down, square or round,
Is this a simple verse or deep profound.
The deafening hiss when impact instead is near miss,
Consider rock-bottom, sky-high, golden hello, terse goodbye
Should have taken the chance and just gone inside,
How great the divide between narrow and wide
