Why is there always so much delay?
As if to stifle a busy day
The petrol pump takes an age to initialise
The cash-point transaction, so slow to finalise.

Poor Porscha, she never won a prize!
So when the news broke, it came as no surprise
Not ever a bridesmaid, far less the bride
She sauntered round the rough estate with slightly desperate pride.

I watch an ice-cube melt away,
As part of an exiting really slow day.
I bet on two insects, climbing a wall,
There isn’t much happening today at all!

Sammy Squirrel couldn’t see
The stash of nuts at the base of his tree
And though he scurried up and down
He could never catch the thief around!

Have you ever wondered what it’d be like
If household objects came alive at night
And any of them with an animal name
Could all join in a musical game
...

Have you ever paused to wonder why bread falls sticky side to the floor,
Or why with bundled arms, you are never able, to open that wretched door.
And when you really don’t need it too, you can rely on it to rain,
And you can just bet someone else will get the last seat on the train.

Skyward gazed a simple man,
thought what describes the grand design
He dwelt upon lifes complex plan

I see a shape in the old shed window and think I will investigate
I turn the key in the stiffened lock and something makes me hesitate
A noise inside, like none before, suggests life, rustle, movement, scratch
Brave for my age I might well seem, but this perhaps might prove my match.

In a busy old city, it’s quite a test
To find a place to build a nest
A pair of sparrows flew around
Looking for somewhere to settle down.

Always put the alarm on snooze at least until you’re get out of bed
And never let a too pretty woman get inside your head
Never eat yellow snow and always wait for the green to go

I went to the biscuit barrel and the biscuit barrel was bare,
I went to find my Teddy but Teddy wasn't there.

Someone else had been there first, probably dear mother of mine,

if i could make them burn my meaning

How large the gap between hired and fired,
I could stay or must go, is it sun or snow,
Was almost elected, the cause now neglected,
How great the divide between narrow and wide.

Which was his lovely home as well
He looked around to find a friend
To help him get it clean again

Don'T Delay My Busy Day

Why is there always so much delay?
As if to stifle a busy day
The petrol pump takes an age to initialise
The cash-point transaction, so slow to finalise.

Why is there so much built-in delay?
Even credit cards are so slow to pay
The PC is a particular villain of mine
With progress bars to steal my time.

Why on earth do I have to wait?
At every automatic barrier gate
And the torture of waiting for the kettle
Is enough to test the strongest mettle.

Rotating doors so slow to spin
It’ll be time to leave before I’m in
Strange that traffic lights seems to know
When you’re desperately willing the green for go.

Software downloads that take an age
As if to tease and foster rage
And is that the shriek of hyena laugh
As I stand and wait for my filling bath

If you counted all the moments lost
To process delay’s invisible cost
And could add them on to the end of life
Some delay free years; wouldn’t that be nice!
