How It Started Poem by Randy McClave

How It Started

It didn't start with gas chambers
If all remembers,
That is not how it all started
But, that is how many souls suffered and departed.
It all started with lies
And then with bigotry and racism cries,
Then attacking immigrants and gays and the transgender
If you truly want to remember.
The politicians had divided the people
Even the ones under God's holy steeple,
Where Jesus said to help the needy and the poor
But, upon them they just wanted to call war.
If you were Jewish you were then also hated
Your ending was already slated,
And no one would help or would even support you
Just because you were a Jew.
The politicians screamed it is us versus them
Their supporters screamed support in mayhem,
Then came the intolerance and the hate speeches
Which reached farther down than what the Devil reaches.
People then stopped helping and caring
Unto the poor and the needy they were cursing and swearing,
And if a person didn't believed as they did
They then hid.
Politician's caused their supporters to became desensitized
Even the ones who were baptized,
Then they all just turned a blind eye
Remember, it all started from racism and bigotry and a lie.
