Hungry He Stood Poem by Randy McClave

Hungry He Stood

There I looked and there he stood
I watched him as he reached out for food,
Everyone saw a lazy, drug using, drunk, scummy bum
I instead saw someone's son.
And of course he could had been someone's uncle or dad
And when I saw him I truly felt sad,
I knew that this type of life he never proudly chose
We truly decide to live a life of woes.
I told him to follow me inside the restaurant
Then I told him to order any food that he would want,
And then I told him as he surveyed the menu as he did think
He can order any beverage, but no alcoholic drink.
We ordered our food and then we both talked
We spoke of the many miles that we have both walked,
He told me of the pain and suffering that he's been through
Then I told him, that God truly loves you.
I told him also how him and I were just the same
As we both played life's game,
I once had a wife and then a girlfriend who both lied and cheated
My soul they had both quickly defeated.
Them and others have also used and took advantage of me
From city to city, and from sea to sea,
And if it wasn't for God being always there at my side
I most likely would have suffered slowly and died.
I told him to please don't give up on joy and a happy living
Remember I said, the Devil is always deceiving,
And don't you dare ever allow the Devil or a deceivers win
Stay away from temptation and sin.
I then told him to please find a church or professional help
Then I said don't ever be a trophy for the Devil's shelf,
Remember I said, always pick yourself up off the ground
Because we all fall down.
I was then ready for the bill and we were preparing to leave
I told him once again that in him I truly do believe,
Then I smiled at him and he gave me a thumbs up
As he was drinking his final drink from his coffee cup.
The waitress came over and then she placed the bill on the table
Then I told him a quick story which was no fable,
How a man who once had nothing one day met the king
Then his heart and soul began to truly sing.
Then I told him the amount that he owes me on this bill
The amount is to always remember that Christ died for him on Calvary hill,
Then I told him the Bible says Angels we will meet and not knowing it
And then I told him that I truly believed in it.
Him being an angel of course I did not believe
But, with a sadness and his loneliness he did not deceive,
And while at the table there we sat joking and delighting
He then borrowed my pen and then on a napkin he began writing.
And of course I did not know what he had wrote
Then he smiled and he stood up and he handed me his note,
I waved at him with a smile, and then I said goodbye
He then rubbed his eyes as though he was going to cry.
He left with a full belly and hopefully a happy heart and a full soul
I still wondered if I was fulfilling God's goal,
And then I watched him leave as he took his path home
I then prayed to God hoping that he would no longer beg or roam.
Then I opened his note and this is what it did say
It said, "Friend I wanted to kill myself and leave the world today",
"But, because of you and your faith I did not follow that request"
"You! are indeed a beautiful person, the very best".
