Hurt Haiku Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Hurt Haiku

this morning
everyone looking like someone else
or their reincarnations

Burl Ives, Col. Sanders & Santa Claus
3 tramps chatting
on a park bench

served tea
by Catherine the Great
Elizabeth the first and second wash the cups

General Custer, Lenin & Lennon
got on at Leicester Square
got off at Piccadilly Circus

Jesus Christ
preaching that
HE WILL COME AGAIN

John Hurt
looking like a John Hurt lookalike
incognito as himself

'Are you him..? ' the woman gasps
''Are you really him! '
'Not really! ' Mr. Hurt replies

Two more Hurt lookalikes
come in for coffee
outnumbered by Hurts

real Hurt
lookalike Hurts
looking from one to the other

real Hurt
asks the lookalike
for his autograph
