Hypatia



Mathematician of earned fame,
Lady Hypatia did inspire.
Teacher of thinking was her aim
In the ancient Roman Empire.
A pagan Neoplatonist,
Mainly Christian men she did teach.
This caused some tension to exist,
And spread rumors of her did reach
The Christian populace that she
Was a mistress of Satan sent
To beguile Christianity.
Her final fate came during Lent.

Hypatia, First Lady of math,
Murdered by Christian mob in wrath.
