I Always Kissed My Father Poem by Juan Olivarez

I Always Kissed My Father

I was nineteen, when my father died,
And there never was a day,
That I looked him in the eyes and lied,
That I now can say.

I was a man full grown outside,
And he would fix me with his gaze.
And no to him I never lied,
And I always kissed his face.

I always kissed my father,
And I never was ashamed.
To me it never was a bother,
And I would do it all again.

This is very beautiful. I know there are some men that don't want to have much physical contact with their fathers, and it is very sad. I'm glad you didn't lose out on that part of having a parent, you must have been wise even as a young man.
