I Am A Poem Poem by Valerie Dohren

I Am A Poem

Rating: 5.0

I am a poem -
I was birthed in solitude
in a place of quiet contemplation.
The words of which I am made
spilled out from my creator's pen
as a compulsion for expression and catharsis -
the birth pangs being both urgent and mindful.

I will oftentimes move your world,
perhaps causing you to weep or to sigh,
sometimes to evoke a smile or mirthfulness.
My greatest wish is that I should bring words of comfort
to those in need, a source of solace and understanding -
my purpose is cast within the cosmos
in which I was first conceived.

I existed as a separate entity from my creator, in fact
before there were any words through which I might find expression,
for I am a child of the universe, without beginning or end.
You may forget me, but I will always be here, deep within your heart.
Take me, hold me, cradle me, and treat me with the respect I deserve -
I came to fruition through love, care, and dedication
and I will not be spurned or set aside.

I am a poem -
Sometimes I will manifest as grand and eloquent
whilst at others, I will be simple, humble, perhaps lacking in verbosity -
but no matter, I emanate from the heart and soul of my creator,
therefore I am a masterpiece, a work of art, a thing of beauty,
and I must be treasured and valued beyond measure.
Should you set me aside, I will not be lost or disappear into obscurity -
I will wait, wait until once more I find expression through the voice of the cosmos.

I am a poem -
