I Am Dying Anyway! Poem by RIC BASTASA

I Am Dying Anyway!

when we were young
and unbound, free as the wind
when love comes
there is no hesitation at
all to embrace it, tightly,
and relentlessly,
without the benefit of thoughts,
just the flitting of feelings,
come what may! we always say.

now with our age of wisdom,
when love comes, we simply stare
at it, doing all the thinking,
on its relevance, or use, and
weighing all the consequences,
we regain balance, and we either
go for it, or surrender,
but always with this sense of
responsibility...

until we get tired of restraints,
and we lose control, and be back
to the years of youth,
come what may! because you are
dying anyway!

so you do all sorts of candidness,
whatever that be,
losing all the decency, and
integrity, summers turning to winters,
education thrown over the window,
manners going crazy, just because
one feels the scarcity of love,
its rarity, its having to come once
in a lifetime, and you say,
come what may! i am dying anyway!

you swallow humiliation, you take
all indignities, you ignore mediocrity,
because as you said it:
come what may! i am dying anyway!
