I Am Man Poem by Colin Coplin

I Am Man

Rating: 4.0

I am man, I walk upright, I play God 'cause I can
I stand proud, I stand alone, no animal equals man
The birthright of life, yes, I've claim it, immortal I stand in time
I am that I am, yes I am man and I feel fine

The sun set lazily into the horizon
Some clouds sprinkled a dropp or two of rain
The wind kissed my face like a new lover
An eagle showed off it's freedom to a sculptured world below

Sometimes I wish I was that eagle
Yes I wish I had it's height
But instead I'm like those clouds
'cause occasionally I cry

But I am man, I have reached those heights and higher
'cause I can cry when I am happy and when I am alone
I can play with time if I desire
I am what I am, on my own

A river sparkled, it looked to me she was laughing
Maybe at the sky the way it wore today’s rainbow like a frown
Or maybe at the bird sitting high in the tree
Whistling for it’s mate who's flying off alone

Sometimes I wish I was that river
Yes, I wish I had it's laugh
But instead I'm like that bird
Whistling for his lady who's now far off

But I am man, for I have seen such joys, no known feelings can describe
And I have dreamed such things and built them in my own time
There is no love imaginable I have not come to feel
For I am man

The animals take a casual stroll through the isles of natures supermarket
Where the strong survive and the weak must die
And the seas only move, to each breathe taken by the moon
And if a mountain were move, it could only be to crumble
While a star would simply disappear from sight

I am man, I walk upright, I play God 'cause I can
I stand proud, I stand alone, no animal equals man
The birthright of life, yes, I've earned it, immortal I stand in time
I am that I am, yes I am man and I feel fine

And as I stand on the cusp of tomorrow, I shed only a little tear
For all my hopes and dreams are real, they are what got me here

And every forest I have seen dwindle
And every scar on my mother’s womb
I have healed and I have sewn
In the amber of the late afternoon

For I am man, yes I am man, I am man
