I Am The Jolly Jester Poem by C Richard Miles

I Am The Jolly Jester

I am the jolly jester, full of those jokes and tricks
That make you chuckle, grin and laugh at my antics;
I am the cheeky clown that takes the custard pie
That was meant for you, so troubles pass you by.
It sometimes seems this simpleton just shows a smiling face
And can have no depth, but come dread, darker days,
This buffoon’s no tragic case that shuffles to his doom
Off the comedian’s stage, as silence stalks the room:
In optimism’s half-full glass there is more hope and trust
Than ever was contained in failure’s half-drained cups
So, when this guru speaks, hark well to his advice
For when the wise are lost, the fool becomes the wise.
