I Can No Longer Look You In The Eyes… Poem by Nnamdi Okose

I Can No Longer Look You In The Eyes…

I can no longer look you in the eyes
Not now that I've drunk of the pattering
Blood rain on the back of your neck
Innocence fled in the apocalypse
Lost amidst the grotesque snicker
Of hydra headed intentions
The seed within a troubadour heightens guilt
Even for such a little sin as drinking…
Now I'm drunk with the voice of Anna
Crooning asperges me to captives
Who listen but cannot hear
But it is me that shakes as a leaf
At the foot of your cross
Not daring to look you in the eyes
