Time Whispered… Poem by Nnamdi Okose

Time Whispered…

Time whispered within the veil of wind
Scattered gold dust across the sky
And had it suspended there
Within the cocoon of unsung butterflies.
Time waits, pliant supple, for me
Pilgrim, etching my heart along sandy banks of the Niger
Listening only to whispers
Not daring to stop your fleeting grace
Not daring to hold your face in the cusp of my hands
And whisper an endearment
Or tell you how your blown kisses
Weaken the frail petals strung on me like a toga
This confession will wait just as you have waited
Patiently, pliant but petulantly
Willing me to wake up and be free.
