I Cannot Be That Saint Poem by The Muse

I Cannot Be That Saint

I cannot be that saint
The one that says it's ok
The one that lets you off the hook
Each time you go astray

She is truly a saint
Or merely loves you more
She couldn't not be a saint
For her fortitude makes me faint

I cannot be that saint
Although I once did love you so
I don't know what I feel now
Since you clearly showed me the door

I cannot be that saint
With self inflicted wounds
I'd rather a stigmata
For a thousand moons

You'd better change for her
For she has stood the test
When easily have faltered
All the beauty and the best

I cannot be that saint
I don't wish it anymore
I know we weren't meant to be
Just need to leave and go

I cannot be that saint
My life isn't lived yet
A virtual wall is not enough
For my sins to be put to test

There are a few more chores
I need to wind up now
Battle the odd disease
And sway grandkids on my knee

Then I will pack my Earthly bag
And sojourn to heavenly climes
Whether as man or saint
Depends on the times
