I Cannot Go Beyond Myself
I cannot go beyond myself
And be what I am not
All my efforts at transcendence
Are in essence one long return
To who and what I am
And so
Not given the genius and creative power
I long for
I trod out my simple lines
Doing what others far greater than me have done
In ways I will never do it
A small soul who could not be a great one
Though his longing for this never died.
