I Choose Poetry Poem by ANTHONY ANIGBATA

I Choose Poetry

I CHOOSE POETRY

Our fathers often say, too many words
don't convey
the message better,
so I choose poetry
because this message I carry
need reach
the ends of this hooped world

I choose poetry
because the rivers of it flows in my vein
because with it's enchanting powers
i can put my words in all minds
and paint the world
with my tiny thoughts
i choose poetry
because the fires of it burst in my heart
like racing comets

I choose poetry, not because I am poor
but because I am too rich
like the loamy soils of Tarka
not because I am simple hearted
but because my whole dream is poetry
and its intoxicating drinks webs
my brain like whisky does
I choose poetry
not because I love writing
lines that melts the hearts of men
but because my hearts carry much
to be emptied
for busy sprouts of this age.

I choose poetry,
yes I choose poetry.
because I have thoughts
which burst
like sparking stars in my head
not because I don't have much t say
not because I am not like Micheal Jackson
with sensational voice, like the angels
not because I am not like Sean Combs
with a fast tongue
to weave words into raps
not because I am not like Barrack Obama
to catapult myself to the presidency of this nation

I choose poetry
because I a born with it,
because I have the inherent nature of a poet
because I can play with words
and can express myself
better in this simple form
and I desire not to waste your time with vain words
but put together splendid lines
that can simply tell the whole tale.
i choose poetry
because its words stand like strands in my heart
and do force my pen to pour
its ceaseless blood on paper

I choose poetry
because, it's undaunted beau
carry with it my heart
like the love of a lass can do
not because I desire fame
but because I want to tame
the uncultured heart of youths
with my succulent lines
i choose poetry
because poetry choose me first
and have deposited its seed in me
I should return such genuine love
So, I choose poetry,
and poetry I choose
