I Come Bearing Gifts Poem by LONDIS CARPENTER

I Come Bearing Gifts

Rating: 5.0

I have secrets to sing to the wealthy
I have riches to share with the poor
But the wealth that I bring and the secrets I sing
Are but moot till you open the door

I bring cures to those plagued with diseases
Miracles like you've ne'er seen before
But the treasures I bear, some will never once share
I speak words locked in metaphor

Some have ears but experience no hearing
Some have eyes but less sight than the blind
Some sip nectar not knowing its flavor
Some still seek yet never can find

Many teach who have never been taught
Trading secrets they don't understand
Bearing treasures their gold never bought
From temples they've built on the sand

But the keys that unlock all these treasures
May be found in the heart of a child
Who each day enjoys all their pleasures
From a mind undeceived or beguiled
