I Do Poem by Jamarra Butterfield

I Do

You sold me dreams millionaires couldn't purchase
But I never cared because I slumbered in your security
You touched my arm and my entire body trembled
You held a spell over me that I've never been able to shake
Now, here today
You're about to make those vows
"Til death do you part? "
One soul joined from two fragile hearts
Love was there from the very start.
The organist played and my heart began to thump
My legs began to shake in my Betsy Johnson ‘Caseyy' pumps
You always assured that I wore the very best
I guess it was to make me blend in with the rest
The Cathedral dripped of your favorite scent
Pot of Gold and Sunrise Calla Lilies;
Made the place look like paradise during the event
As the guest began to rise
Pure white Vera Wang design swept the runner
I swallowed my fears with every stride
Knots in my stomach as tears fell from my eye
The happiest day of your life became the saddest of mines
The priest began the ceremony
And pain tore me up inside
Before I knew it …"You may now kiss the bride"
With one peck you sealed with confirmation
New life together and its eternal dedication.
Riding off into forever, I threw away my love for you
Because to another woman you gave your "I Do"
