Thread Poem by Jamarra Butterfield

Thread

The same fibers that you constantly poked at?
And all of my garments you complained about
My dress was too short, my top was too revealing
I changed them all for you.
But the problem was not my apparel
Threads that held this garment of a relationship together was the blame
Was that the main reason for your fabric change?
I changed my threads while our life you rearranged
Even if I bought new clothes
this sewing machine of a relationship still wouldn't flame
It's as if the thread that held us together rotted yet we stayed the same
