I Do Not Go There Poem by Raymond Farrell

I Do Not Go There

I know where the plot is
At the back of the cemetery
In the new part
That's where it is
When we went together
To the Town Hall
To buy a double plot
The lady told us
What was available
And together we decided
On the location
Being in our forties
Neither one of us
Thought we'd be laid to rest
Any time soon
But there you have it
Less than five years later
You were dead and buried
With a grave stone marking the place
Name, date of birth, date of death
And a passage of Scripture
Chiseled on the stone
I know where the plot is
At the back of the cemetery
In the new part
But I do not go there
You are not there
You are in my heart
And in my mind
You are not there.
