I Don'T Look Too Close Poem by Patti Masterman

I Don'T Look Too Close

I don't look too close now,
So I won't see what's missing;
Or what was never there,
Don't want to catch myself waiting
For invisible things of air.

I won't strain to hear
Words never spoken,
So you don't have to feel bad;
And there's no need for retracing
Something we never had.

Oh, Patti. I always enjoy reading you. Suggestion? L2 V2 omit the word 'were'. I think it may give a cleaner path to the message.
